About Me

My serious birding journey began in 2021, when exploring the outdoors with my camera became a source of peace, discovery, and connection. Since then, I’ve photographed birds throughout Maryland, across the United States, and around the world.

I’m drawn to the fleeting moments that reveal a bird’s character: an unexpected glance, a burst of color, dramatic movement, or a quiet behavior that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I also serve as editor of Maryland Birdlife, the journal of the Maryland Ornithological Society.

Behind Every Photograph

Before pressing the shutter, I research the bird, its habitat, recent sightings, weather and light. An encounter may require a predawn start, hundreds of miles on the road, a flight across the country or a boat far offshore, followed by hours of searching, waiting and watching.

Every bird featured in my work was personally encountered and photographed by me in the wild. I photograph patiently and from a respectful distance so that birds can behave naturally.

No stock photography. No AI-generated birds.

Why “FeatherShutter”?

FeatherShutter unites the two essential parts of my work: the feathered subjects I love and the camera shutter that preserves a moment before it disappears.

Every photograph has a real place, a real journey and a story behind it. I hope each finished piece brings some of that wonder into your home.
